Dear
Friends, Neighbors and Citizens of Milton,
Happy
Earth Week! I hope you and your family found
some fun ways to celebrate Earth Day on Sunday
followed by expanded activities this week to help
demonstrate the importance of taking care of our
environment for future generations. It's the
little things that can make all the difference.
And, our community's youth are watching what
we do to show them it is something we all value.
Please help to protect our community
by demonstrating ways that we can work together
for a better, cleaner, more environmentally
friendly Milton. It's a win for
everyone!
Additionally
in this newsletter you can find information about
some important meetings at the City of Milton City

Earth Week and Georgia Cities
Week
|
Happy
Earth Day and Earth Week!
Please
remember, the Earth and our collective environment
deserve our attention everyday. And, sometimes it
is the very easy and simple things that can make all the
difference. Simple daily activities can have a
huge compounding effect. Conserve water, plant a
tree, save a tree, pick up a piece of trash, recycle,
teach your children about the importance of protecting
our environment for their future, communicate your
opinions about protecting our community to your elected
officials, i.e. the Mayor, the Council and the City of
Milton staff, use appropriately placed silt fences on
construction sites, participate in or help to sponsor a
River's Alive event, engage a neighbor or friend in a
simple task to help clean up your roadways and so much
more. These simple reminders are a great start to
new habits that can truly make a difference for our
entire community and the region as a
whole.
Julie
Zahner Bailey volunteers her time during Earth Week at
Summit Hill Elementary to help educate our community's
youth regarding the importance of working together as a
team to reduce waste, lessen our dependency on landfills
and learn about ways to recycle and make a difference!

| Milton to Review Comprehensive Land
Use Plan |
|
As the City of Milton prepares to initiate its
first Comprehensive Plan Update process that will
outline the city's vision for its future and provide the
framework for all future growth over the next 20 years,
seven residents are needed to serve on a Citizens
Advisory Committee. This committee - working with
the Council, the staff and the broader community - will
provide recommendations to help shape the plan over
time. This process is expected to take 12-18
months and will require the involvement and input of the
entire community. This is one of the most critical
steps the new City will endeavor upon as the CLUP
defines this area for better or worse and includes
everything from the types of zoning categories allowed
throughout Milton including allowable uses by category
while also reaffirming existing policies regarding
sewerage, traffic, environmental protection and
more. This is a roadmap to the future of
Milton. Please stay tuned for more details and
plan to be very involved in the Comprehensive Land Use
Plan Update process. Your opinions do matter and
need to be a part of the unfolding process.

Milton's Historic Preservation
|
|
Milton's
Historic Preservation Committee has named nine sites as
Historic to the City of Milton.
Click here to view the current
map. In addition to the sites noted, there is an
historic resource survey that included over 200 sites
that was first documented by Fulton County. This
data survey is available to the City of Milton and is
being reviewed by staff and council to ensure all the
eligible sites still in existence are noted and
incorporated where appropriate.
Please note, too, that the Mayor and City Council
will be working towards an Historic Preservation
Ordinance which has been an item of interest to the
community for a long time and has been a subset of the
existing Comprehensive Land Use Plan and the Rural
Preservation Plan, but which needs specific focus to
ensure one is put in place.
Additionally, please read the recent article in
the April 25th Milton Herald regarding
historic preservation and the importance of preserving
certain of these structures for the benefit of
protecting the sense of place so unique to
Milton.

Again, thank you for your support
and your input.
Every voice matters so please
stay involved and engaged.
Thank you for caring
about our community.
Take care,

Congratulations to Milton's
"If I Were Mayor I Would..." Essay
Winner!! Northwestern sixth grader Elizabeth
Edwards The City of Milton celebrate sits first
Georgia Cities Week April 22-29, sponsored by the
Georgia Municipal Association. The weeklong showcase
celebrates cities and the services they provide, part of
GMA's on-going effort to raise public awareness about
the services that cities perform and to educate the
public about how city government works. Mayor Joe
Lockwood and the Milton City Council passed a resolution
at their April 12 meeting recognizing Georgia Cities
Week and encouraging all citizens to support the
celebration and associated activities.
Georgia
Cities Week falls in April, which also is Keep Georgia
Beautiful Month. City officials plan to introduce the
Milton Adopt-A-Road program during April in coordination
with Keep North Fulton Beautiful. City staff will set
the example by adopting the portion of Deerfield Parkway
in front of City Hall. Residents interested in adopting
a Milton road should contact Linda Blow, special
projects coordinator, 678.242.2500 or e-mail her at
