Urgent! Sewer Extension
Request Re-filed
|
|

"The
Race is On", Photo submitted by Milton resident, Lisa Love Pullen
A request for sewer extension filed by Mr. Dennis Potts
was received by City of Milton staff on October 24, 2007.
Mr. Potts filed this same request -- along with other developers John
McMillan and Ken Morton -- earlier this year and then withdrew it
surrounding public outcry and controversy among certain council members
who were prepared to vote for sewer extension as reflected in the
meeting minutes and as reported by the Milton Herald on May
9. This weeks Herald also highlights the issues of sewer vs
septic, Wright, Jason. "Experts look at the facts about Milton's
septic vs. sewer debate." Milton Herald 11/01/2007:10.
As was discussed during earlier meetings on this issue this request for
sewer extension is in direct conflict with the long-standing no sewer,
no inter-basin transfer policies of this area. Furthermore, as stated
by Community Development Director for Alpharetta, Diana Wheeler,
Wright, Jason. "Experts look at the facts about Milton's septic
vs. sewer debate." Milton Herald 11/01/2007 : 10, "There
is no question about it" she said. "You have to have an
acre for septic, with sewer there's no land relationship."
She went on to say that, "she has not seen a case where sewer
did not mean more density."
Please communicate your opinions and plan to attend
the Thursday, December 6th Milton City Council meeting where
this will be discussed.
This is yet another reason that the upcoming, Tuesday, November 6th
elections are so critical for the future of our collective community.
We need strong, positive leadership that is citizen focused...not just
through words but through demonstrated actions.

Letter to Editor from
Cherokee County Resident
"Santi's Vote for High Density"
|
|
Dear Editor,
Voter beware of Mr. Roger Santi's voting record!
Mr. Santi insults us all with his latest e-mail release quoting, "At
the meeting Roger stated for the region, it may be a good project, but
if Roger was a county commissioner he would not approve it."
I was at this meeting and he said no such thing when he
voted FOR a massive, high density Cherokee project.
November 2006, I fought a proposed project of 12,000 homes on 4,000
acres of which 1,500 acres were totally unbuildable. The
developer planned a "city" in the middle of nowhere on land
designated "Wildlife Management Area". One couple
was faced with 2,000 town homes surrounding their once peaceful setting
on 5 acres. This one development would need 10 schools to educate
its children -- costing Cherokee County residents over $200 Million in
school construction alone. The costs to support services would have
raised every home in Cherokee an average of $500 per year. There was a
long list of revenue shortfalls for this project. I
witnessed Roger Santi's vote to approve this project.
While he's now trying to dodge the truth, he and other members of the
Environment and Land Use Committee believed that 12,000 homes on sewer
was better than 2,000 homes on septic.
I wonder why he would vote FOR a development that he thought the
County Commissioners should vote against? It makes no
sense. Did he cave to the pressure of other committee
members? Was he hoping Cherokee Commissioners would have better
sense than he? His latest comments in his e-mail release show
he's maneuvering--his voting record is
indisputable.

Mr. Santi's Record on Meeting Absences
Records do not make false assumptions or twist the facts as
insinuated in my opponent's recent release regarding his absence from 7
out of 11 meetings of the Environment and Land Use Committee.
Records reflect that he missed 7 out of the 11 meetings in 2006.
A sampling of the ARC website shows my opponent was absent 8 out of 12
or 66% of the meetings from October 2005 until October 2006.
The truth according to the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) WEB site:
Environment and Land Use Committee
ELUC. See for yourself!

News
The 2006 vote in favor of a massive development project in Cherokee
County by Mr. Roger Santi and 10 others on the Environment and Land Use
Committee (ELUC) of the Atlanta Regional Commission raised the ire of
thousands of county residents including the Ledger News Editor. He was
prompted to call the vote, "ELUC manipulation".

Here are some excerpts:
Yandel, Gerry. "ARC's DRI review was a bad joke" Cherokee
Ledger-News 11/22/2006.
"With some nifty sleight-of-hand worthy of Penn & Teller,
The Environment and Land Use Committee (ELUC)....magically made the ARC
staff's negative review of Macauley's proposed Sutallee project
disappear."
"It was like that trick where you snatch the tablecloth from
underneath a fancy table-setting for eight without disturbing
anything."
"In fact the bait & switch was so skillfully executed (by
ELUC) that I would have stood and applauded if it wasn't so
appalling."
