Julie Zahner Bailey Expects to Retain District 2 Council Seat Despite Competition from Previous Opponent
Incumbent City Council member confident Milton voters see her experience and knowledge as assets to city's long-term interests

MILTON, GA (August 31, 2007) - Current Milton City Council member and incumbent for at-large District 2 Julie Zahner Bailey kicks off her campaign as a challenger filed paperwork to run for the seat in the November 6 election. The 20-year resident of the Milton area cites her knowledge of and hands-on experience with the issues facing Milton as the primary reasons she defeated the same opponent during last year's election.

"The decisions we make during our first few years as a city will echo for decades and I am committed to the principles that will continue to protect our quality of life," said Zahner Bailey. "I believe in responsible and sustainable growth and have worked hard for over a decade to help protect and preserve the unique quality of life all of us want for Milton and our families."

Zahner Bailey says she has been a consistent supporter of conservative fiscal management out of respect for the tax dollars paid by Milton citizens, and stands firm on the no-sewer and no inter-basin policies to protect Milton's low-density, rural-residential communities.

"I believe strongly that consistent application of our comprehensive land use policies is critical to protecting us from the mistakes made by other communities," she said. "You don't have to look very far to see that when unchecked development becomes the norm, there is no going back."

Zahner Bailey graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BS in Finance from Florida State University. She lives in the Birmingham community with her husband Bill and their two children, Savannah, 9, and Zachary, 13. They own Bailey Farm & Gardens, Inc., an ecologically friendly landscape, nursery and horticultural business, and attend Roswell Presbyterian Church.

Why another election so soon?

vote

Many residents have asked why there is another election just one year after Milton's inaugural elections. They're also somewhat confused as to why certain, not all District seats are up for election this November. The charter for the City of Milton includes the terms of office of the Mayor and city council members as written by our State Legislator.

For more information please go to
www.cityofmiltonga.us click on Government, then city charter. Scroll down to page 14, Section 2.11 Elections. This section outlines the terms of the mayor and city council members.  You will note that District seats 2, 4 and 6 are up for election in November 2007.

Voters across Milton, regardless of the District they live in, can cast votes for the seats in Districts 2, 4 and 6 that expire this year.

I hope I can count on your vote on November 6, 2007.
