Happy Holidays, Upcoming Events and Meetings
|
|
Dear Milton
Friends, Neighbors and Citizens -
I hope that you and your families have been able to celebrate and
reflect on the miracles of this holiday season while enjoying the
blessing of time with family and friends.
As we move towards a New Year, I am reminded of the blessings of 2009
as well as the opportunities before us as a community as we approach
2010. At the center of such opportunities are the citizens
and community members that make Milton a very special place.
Please be aware of upcoming events and meetings in Milton as you look forward
to the next few weeks:
- Bring One for the
Chipper - As an active member and founder of the
Milton Grows Green (MGG) Committee, I am pleased to announce the
second annual Christmas Tree recycling event to be held in Milton
on Jan. 2nd from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.at two locations: 1.)
Firestation #43 located on Hickory Flat Road just west of the
Birmingham Crossroads and 2.) Milton High School. (MHS trees will be transferred
to Fire Station #43 later Saturday afternoon.)
Please consider recycling your Christmas Trees as it does reduce
the number of items filling our landfills while also providing for
mulch for public spaces thereby reducing city costs. There
also will be unmanned drop off opportunities for your convenience
from Jan. 2 to Jan 9. Please scroll down the flyer with
the specifics for this free "green" event.

Volunteers have fun during last years Bring One for the
Chipper, 2009
- City Council -
Wednesday, January 6, 6:00 p.m. - The
first meeting of the new year will take place on Wednesday, Jan.
6th versus the typical Monday meeting given that Monday is still a
holiday for most local schools. As usual, the Council
meeting will begin at 6:00 p.m. and includes the swearing in of
newly elected officials.
- Other upcoming meetings
are listed in the right margin for
your review and include some key items as noted here.
- Special Use Permits for
three cell towers requested by T-Mobile on three separate
locations including: a) 14495 Hopewell Road, 2) 2880 Mountain
Road, and, 3) 13302 New Providence Road.
These special use permits will follow the required
rezoning/special use permit process with a:
- Design Review Board (DRB)
meeting on Tuesday, January 5th,
- Community Zoning Information
meeting on Thursday, January 7th at 7:00 p.m.,
- Planning Commission Meeting
on Tuesday January 26th at 7:00 p.m. and,
- City Council meeting on
Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at 6:00 p.m.
Each of these meetings is held at City Hall which is
located at 13000 Deerfield Parkway. Public comments and
involvement are encouraged for this and all rezoning, land use and
special use permits requested by applicants. Use this link to access
information from the City of Milton website including maps of the
proposed sites for the three proposed cell towers.
- RZ09-05 - Rezoning
request in Crabapple on Birmingham Highway (372 - just south of
Crabapple Elementary School on the east side) - The
applicant is requesting to change the current conditional zoning
-- which is a conditional C-1 use specifically identified for an
antique store -- to an unconditional C-1 use. The letter of
intent of the applicant notes that the initial new use
contemplated is for a hair salon. It is very important to
note, however, that an unconditional C-1 zoning would allow other
uses to be brought forth in the future if the zoning were to
become unconditional. The current conditional use means that
while it is C-1, it can only be used for the specific conditional
use identified. This rezoning went to the Planning
Commission initially last month and was deferred. It
returns to the Planning Commission on Tuesday, January 5th at 7:00
p.m. during a Special Called Meeting after which it will come to
the Council. Use this link for more information.
I hope this information is helpful to you.
As always, I am thankful for the opportunity to serve you and your
family as a City Council member. I remain committed to the
betterment of our entire community on your behalf and consider it an
honor and a serious responsibility to be a public servant for this
special place my family and I have been able to call home for over 22
years. Please stay involved and let me know of any questions or
concerns you have and/or any opportunities you believe should be
brought to the attention of the community.
I wish you and your family an upcoming year of good health and the
blessings of friendship and family.
All my best for a wonderful 2010,

Julie Zahner Bailey

Volunteers Needed!
|
|

"Bring One
For The Chipper" is a statewide event intended to keep Christmas
trees out of our landfills by collecting trees after the holidays and
chipping into mulch for various purposes. Since its inception,
the Georgia event has recycled over 4.8 million trees!
Volunteers of all ages are welcome!
If you want to volunteer to help on Jan. 2nd from 9:00 - 2:00 either at
Firestation #43 or Milton High School, please contact Milton Grows
Green at
miltongrowsgreen@earthlink.net. or just show up. It is a
great way for students to earn hours for Beta Clubs or just to help out
your community; it's fun too!

It's easy and
very appreciated.
Support in many
forms is essential for my grass roots efforts and of course,
includes the need for financial contributions.
Thank you for your
consideration of such a donation.
