Dear Milton Friends, Neighbors and Citizens:

Summer is in full swing in Milton and I hope this release finds you and your families enjoying this time of year.  The City of Milton
has many programs underway that we hope are enhancing your summer enjoyment.  Some of these programs include increasing numbers of recreational opportunities through multiple partnerships, the opening of the Bethwell Community Center, camp opportunities for certain age groups and free concerts at the Birmingham Park.  The next concert in the park is tonight, Friday, July 1.  Please scroll down for the specific dates and times.  Also, don't miss the Milton Market in Crabapple on Saturday mornings where locally grown produce and handcrafted items are available.

Meanwhile, the work of the city continues daily including:  current roadway paving, planning for certain intersection and transportation improvements -- including coordination on regional projects where possible --forward movement on the three year Strategic Plan, completion of the Comprehensive Plan, RFP's for the city wide park master plan, on-going zoning and variance request reviews by staff, boards and Council and much more.

Our next Council meeting is on Wednesday, July 6th and the full agenda can be seen below.  Please take the time to review and provide any comments on items of interest or concern to you.  Your opinions matter to me very much as I endeavor everyday to represent your interests and expectations for our collective community.  Direct citizen involvement remains critical.

Please be sure to look at the schedule of other upcoming meetings of our Boards and Commissions in the right margin as there are critical items that come before these decision making bodies.

Thank you for entrusting me to represent you and your families.  I take my role as your city representative extremely seriously.  Please communicate any concerns or ideas you have.

Please continue to have a safe and enjoyable summer including the 4th of July as we all reflect and celebrate the United States of America and the many freedoms of our great country.

All my best -

Kick off the Fourth of July weekend with a free concert at Birmingham Park

Kick off your Independence Day weekend right with the second installment of "Concerts in the Park: Boogie Down at Birmingham" presented by Doctors Express tonight, Friday, July 1.

This show, like the other two in the series, will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Milton's Birmingham Park, located behind Milton Fire Station No. 43, just west of the Birmingham Crossroads at 750 Hickory Flat Road (click here for directions). The 200-acre setting means lots of safe, open space to spread out and let the kids dance and play.

The City of Milton Parks and Recreation Department will have free giveaways to celebrate the holiday and the fact that July is Parks and Recreation month. There will also be food and beverages at the park provided by Wholly Pops and The Pup Truck, but feel free to bring a picnic and blanket and just enjoy the summer evening and free music. No alcohol is allowed in the park.

Nashville's Sarah Peacock, an Atlanta native, will rock Birmingham starting at 6:30 p.m. A true troubadour, the powerhouse vocalist averages more than 200 gigs a year, honing her blend of classic rock, country and pop.

Summer basketball begins next week

Registration is still open for the City of Milton and Up with Kids Sports (UWKS) summer basketball league, which begins practices next week.

This co-ed development summer league, the city's first, is for children ages 8 to 13 and will last from June 27 to July 30. Games will start July 7. The discounted cost for Milton residents is $115, which includes uniform. The league fee for all others is $172.50.

All games and practices will take place at Hopewell Middle School thanks to an agreement between Fulton County Schools and the City of Milton. This will also be home to a future winter league and clinics to be offered throughout the year.

Parents can sign up for the league by clicking here. Choose "City of Milton - UWKS Co-ed Summer League," download the registration form and mail it with payment to:
