Press Release 10/15/07
Julie Zahner Bailey, Milton City Council District 2
Focused on the True Issues
Milton City residents recently gathered to show their support of City Council member Julie Zahner Bailey. Over 100 Milton residents attended her re-election fundraiser at the home of Paul and Lou Roth also hosted by Mayor Joe Lockwood, City Council member Tina D’Aversa and Milton residents John and Denise Cole.
During the evening Mrs. Bailey, a 20-year resident of Milton, restated her commitments to the community that she has fostered for nearly 12 years: uphold the land-use plan and closely scrutinize any changes affecting it; maintain the policies on no-sewer and no-inter-basin transfers -- keep Milton decidedly rural; and no tax increases -- make every tax dollar count.
On the contentious no-sewer policy Council member Bailey remarked, “While some council members are on record as being willing to stray from the no-sewer policy, I will not waver. Those who say that sewer can be added while controlling density are either naïve or being disingenuous. This simply does not work and places the residents at the mercy of those who have no interest in maintaining Milton’s rural nature.”
Regarding her opponent’s recent statements about her, Bailey said that she expects the mudslinging from Mr. Santi. “This is how he campaigned last year…on falsehoods and negativity…. and lost.” Added Bailey, “It is unfortunate that certain council members have aligned themselves publicly with Santi’s negative campaigning and name calling.” Three council members, Thurman, Lusk and O’Brien attended Santi’s fundraiser.
“Mr. Santi wants us to believe that he will not support sewer extensions. Residents need to reconcile his statements with his list of campaign contributors among whom are developers and a private sewer company. One such developer, Lee Duncan, had some stinging words to say about Bailey, “I’ve been fighting with that (expletive) for seven years,” referring to his efforts to bring sewer to rural Milton. When asked about Mr. Duncan’s statements, one Milton resident commented, “This is one of the highest compliments Julie could receive. It overwhelmingly demonstrates that she has been very effective.”
In contrast to Bailey's fundraiser which consisted of residents of Milton, Mr. Santi has surrounded himself with high-profile developers who Bailey points out, "typically don’t live in Milton.” Bailey countered, “Why does anyone think these developers are willing to spend an evening at Santi’s fundraiser? Doubtful it’s merely for the shrimp and $5.00 glasses of wine.”

Julie Zahner Bailey Expects to Retain District 2 Council
Seat Despite Competition from Previous Opponent
Incumbent City Council member confident Milton voters see her
experience and knowledge as assets to city's long-term interests
MILTON, GA (August 31, 2007) - Current Milton City Council member and incumbent for at-large District 2 Julie Zahner Bailey kicks off her campaign as a challenger filed paperwork to run for the seat in the November 6 election. The 20-year resident of the Milton area cites her knowledge of and hands-on experience with the issues facing Milton as the primary reasons she defeated the same opponent during last year's election.
"The decisions we make during our first few years as a city will echo for decades and I am committed to the principles that will continue to protect our quality of life," said Zahner Bailey. "I believe in responsible and sustainable growth and have worked hard for over a decade to help protect and preserve the unique quality of life all of us want for Milton and our families."
Zahner Bailey says she has been a consistent supporter of conservative fiscal management out of respect for the tax dollars paid by Milton citizens, and stands firm on the no-sewer and no inter-basin policies to protect Milton's low-density, rural-residential communities.
"I believe strongly that consistent application of our comprehensive land use policies is critical to protecting us from the mistakes made by other communities," she said. "You don't have to look very far to see that when unchecked development becomes the norm, there is no going back."
Zahner Bailey graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BS in Finance from Florida State University. She lives in the Birmingham community with her husband Bill and their two children, Savannah, 9, and Zachary, 13. They own Bailey Farm & Gardens, Inc., an ecologically friendly landscape, nursery and horticultural business, and attend Roswell Presbyterian Church.

Julie Zahner Bailey Announces Campaign for Re-Election
to Milton City Council Seat, District 2
MILTON, GA (August 27, 2007) – Milton City Council member Julie Zahner Bailey has qualified to run for re-election to her current seat as at-large council member from District 2. A 19-year resident of the Milton area, Zahner Bailey says she is committed to upholding the policies and values that the citizens elected her to represent – specifically a transparent, open government, consistent application of the Comprehensive Land Use Plan, the protection of the low-density, residential areas and the overall rural character of the area.
“As a council, we have accomplished much over the past year including deployment of fire and police, a balanced budget in both 2007 and 2008, and the passage of critical ordinances and procedures,” said Zahner Bailey. “However, much remains to be done. The decisions made during our first few years as a city will echo for decades and I am committed to the principles that will continue to protect our quality of life.”
Zahner Bailey says she has been a consistent supporter of conservative fiscal management out of respect for the tax dollars paid by Milton citizens, and stands firm on the no-sewer and no inter-basin policies to protect Milton’s low-density, rural-residential communities. “I believe strongly that consistent application of our comprehensive land use policies is critical to protecting us from the mistakes made by other communities,” she said.
Milton Mayor Joe Lockwood said Zahner Bailey has been an asset both to the City of Milton and the City Council. “ I respect council member Julie Zahner Bailey not only for the past 11 years of hard work she has given to our community, but also for the positive difference she has made this first year working together on our council,” said Lockwood. “I believe we share the same vision moving forward as the overwhelming majority of our citizens do for our community. I will be proud to have Julie serve on our council for the next four years and look forward to continuing to work with her."
